Cumming, Georgia, USA based North Atlanta Dhol Tasha And Lezim or “NADTAL” in short is a non-profit organization working independently in an effort to convey this experience to the youth and inculcate this pride despite being across the ocean. “NADTAL” is trying to connect the youth to its soil by playing Dhol Tasha and Lezim.
Dhol Tasha is the sound that connects every Marathi person to the Marathi culture and to the Marathi soil. I wonder if the blood did not swell with pride and the legs did not tremble at that sound. In earlier times, the drum was an instrument played to express joy after winning a war. Lezim has been famous as a folk dance since the time of Shivaji Maharaj. In those days, lezim was played on a halgi instrument on every auspicious occasion, whether it was a celebration or success in war or the homecoming of victorious heroes.
